Overview
Safe Pharmacy is an IPU-led Service that will enable people experiencing domestic abuse or coercive control to receive support in their local pharmacy. The Safe Pharmacy Service is led by the Irish Pharmacy Union in partnership with An Garda Síochána, the HSE and Safe Ireland.
This course is certified by ATHE (Awards for Training and Higher Education). On completion of this course each student will receive a Digital Badge from ATHE. The cost to complete this course is fully sponsored by the IPU. We encourage all our Safe Pharmacy Champions and their colleagues to avail of this course.
Course Content
This course is comprised of 2 modules covering a number of topics:
Module 1 – Awareness and Understanding of Domestic Abuse which provides an overview of the types of domestic abuse, including violence and coercive Control, followed by common domestic abuse myths. The module looks at the prevalence of domestic abuse in Ireland and global then focuses on the impact of domestic abuse on the victim, children, and their families. After this, an overview of current legislation is presented and finally the role of Safe Ireland and the various support agencies is provided.
Module 2 – Safe Environments for Safe Disclosures focuses on the basic but essential skills needed to assist a victim in making a safe disclosure in various public settings, such as a Pharmacy, a Hairdresser, a Pub, and many more settings.
Course Delivery
This is an online course so that each student can select their own learning environment that works best for them. The course is mobile friendly allowing the student the flexibility to compete the course at a time and place that’s convenient to them. There is an assessment on course completion.
Course Fee
The course is free to all members of the pharmacy team working in a Safe Pharmacy.
Availability
This eLearning course is available to purchase 24/7 and is placed on the Learning Management System on the IPU Moodle Platform.
How to Enrol and Pay
- Go to www.ipu.ie.
- In the top menu, click on “IPU Professional Academy” and then select Training Courses.
- If you want to browse first, just click View Course to read the details.
- From the Training Courses page, you can add courses to a shopping cart by hovering over the course you want and clicking Add to Cart. You will be able to increase the quantity at the Checkout point. You can continue adding other courses to the cart, or when you are done, click View basket on the last course you added, or, if you are viewing a course, click on the basket icon in the right-hand corner and click View Basket.
- From here, you can increase the quantity but make sure to click Update Basket if you do so.
- Please, make sure you click on the green button ”Members Login” and log on if you are a member, so the system will show the member price.
- Click Proceed to Checkout when you are happy with your booking (s) and enter your billing and pharmacist details.
- You can then scroll down to enter the student details. For example, if you are intending on booking one student on one course and then two students on to a different course, you will see three student bookings appear in the Checkout, since you are booking three slots. The name of the course (s) you have selected will appear at the top of each slot so you can enter the details of the appropriate student to the selected course. You would then repeat the same for the next two student slots.
- After entering all the required information, enter your card details and click Place Order to pay for all of the bookings in one go.
