The 84th International Pharmacy Federation (FIP) World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences took place in Montreal, Canada from 30 August to 2 September, with the theme ‘One Health, One Pharmacy — Bridging science, practice, and education’. Discussions examined how pharmacists can drive progress towards better health outcomes, equitable access to essential medicines and resilient health systems worldwide.
IPU President Caoimhe McAuley, Head of Professional Services Dr Susan O’Dwyer and Medicines Information Pharmacist with the IPU National Health Products Catalogue Noelle Horan were in attendance, along with 3,250 delegates from 112 countries.
The IPU was delighted to present in an early morning Member Organisation Session alongside the Canadian Pharmacists Association. The session was entitled ‘Implementation of pharmacist prescribing in Irish community pharmacy practice’ and was moderated by Ms McAuley. Dr O’Dwyer shared insights into the evolving role of community pharmacy in Ireland, including policy developments, the Common Conditions Service, implementation resources, and the importance of stakeholder collaboration in driving service adoption.
Ms Horan presented a poster at Wednesday’s poster session, entitled ‘Advancing Irish Community Pharmacy Services — Development and Evaluation of a Pharmacist Assessment Form (PAF) for a Common Conditions Service’. This poster outlined the IPU’s development and evaluation of a PAF, a practical resource designed to support pharmacists in delivering structured, consistent and protocol-aligned care for patients presenting with common conditions.
A full report on the FIP World Congress will feature in the November edition of the IPU Review.
