Information and Resources from the Department of Health on Vitamin D Supplementation

Healthy Meath Chronic Disease Risk Management Programme

People living in Ireland do not get enough vitamin D from sunlight or from their diet. Taking a Vitamin D supplement can ensure that we get enough Vitamin D which is essential for bone and muscle health.

The Department of Health recommend that everyone in Ireland to take Vitamin D supplement for at least the winter period and for some, to take a daily supplement all year round.  The amount of Vitamin D supplement is dependent on age, situation and time of year, so it’s important to check with a healthcare professional on the right amount for an individual.

The Department of Health have produced new Vitamin D guidance. These new resources will go out directly from the DoH to all members of the IPU. These guidelines will provide information and advice on the recommended amount of Vitamin D supplementation for everyone.

Further information can be found on the Healthy Ireland website HI page and the HSE website
