The role of the IPU ICT Department is to provide operational support to the organisation, on both internal and external projects, and to provide advice and guidance to IPU members. Under the Community Pharmacy Committee (CPC), the IPU’s IT Steering Group (ITSG) oversees the technological interests of our members. In all our projects, we consult with the ITSG and other specialist sub-committees to get your views and make decisions. Here are some of the areas we cover.
Documentation
A large part of our function is representing your interests on national initiatives when they relate to information as well technology. In relation to information, the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA), is responsible for developing a consistent and standardised approach to health and social care information, based on standards and international best practice. The IPU represents its members on an over-arching advisory group for eHealth standards and specific working groups addressing standards and plans for ePrescribing, Patient Summary Records and information sharing. To that end, the IPU produces reports, guides and specifications to represent the views and requirements of its members.
