Safe Pharmacy is an IPU-led Service that enables people experiencing domestic abuse or coercive control to receive support in their local pharmacy.
The Safe Pharmacy Service is led by the Irish Pharmacy Union in partnership with An Garda Síochána, the HSE and Safe Ireland. This course is certified by ATHE (Awards for Training and Higher Education). On completion each student will receive a Digital Badge from ATHE. The cost to complete this course is fully sponsored by the IPU.
We encourage all our Safe Pharmacy Champions and their colleagues to avail of this course. This is an online course so that each student can select their own learning environment that works best for them. The course is mobile friendly allowing the student the flexibility to compete the course at a time and place that’s convenient to them. There is an assessment on course completion.
Content Course
Module 1 – Awareness and Understanding of Domestic Abuse which provides an overview of the types of domestic abuse, including violence and coercive Control, followed by common domestic abuse myths. The module looks at the prevalence of domestic abuse in Ireland and global then focuses on the impact of domestic abuse on the victim, children, and their families. After this, an overview of current legislation is presented and finally the role of Safe Ireland and the various support agencies is provided.
Module 2 – Safe Environments for Safe Disclosures focuses on the basic but essential skills needed to assist a victim in making a safe disclosure in various public settings, such as a Pharmacy, a Hairdresser, a Pub, and many more settings.
