Charlie McConalogue, Minister for Agriculture, Food, and the Marine signed S.I. No 462/224 – Veterinary Medicinal Products Regulations 2024 on 17 September. This secondary legislation set the legal requirements, among other topics, for:
- Formatting of prescriptions (paper-based, National Veterinary Prescriptions System);
- Particulars that must be recorded on the prescription;
- Usage of the comparable list;
- Period of validity of non-antimicrobial veterinary prescriptions (six months);
- Emergency supplies at the request of registered veterinarians;
- Endorsements of prescriptions;
- Sale at a distance; and
- Disposal of non-conforming veterinary medicinal products.
