During 2023 the IPU proposed and submitted amendments to the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine (DAFM) for consideration before the Veterinary Medicinal Products, Medicated Feed and Fertilisers Regulation Bill 2023 (Vet Bill 2023) was discussed. Some of these amendments were implemented in the current Veterinary Medicinal Products, Medicated Feeds and Fertilisers Regulation Act 2023.
In July 2023, the DAFM sought our support regarding the provision of feedback to the European Commission through its Standing Committee on Veterinary Medicinal Products (SCVMP). The feedback requested related to the characters (pictograms), and abbreviations used on the labelling of both the inner (label) and outer packaging (box) of veterinary medicinal products.
In December, we met with DAFM officials and provided feedback on the drafted Veterinary Medicinal Products Regulations. The DAFM is considering this feedback, and the related legislation will be enacted and published in due course.
This year we continue working closely with the Department regarding the development of the National Veterinary Prescription System. To support this line of work, in February we submitted a paper on the National Veterinary Prescription System – Security & Authentication, Implementing MFA.
We will continue voicing our member’s concerns on veterinary matters and working collaboratively with the DAFM.
