LAIV Awareness Campaign
The IPU has received an educational grant from AstraZeneca to support with the provision of LAIV to children aged 2 to 17 years during the Autumn Winter Vaccination Programme. As a result, the IPU will run a campaign to increase awareness amongst parents and guardians of influenza disease, highlight the need for annual vaccination and support delivery of the service. Within the October edition of the IPU Review members will receive the following:
- Children’s flu stickers;
- Window sticker; and
- Laminated sheet with child-friendly explanation of the vaccination process.
In addition, you will hear the IPU children’s flu vaccination radio ad. The radio ad will air in November and will be supported by a social media campaign. The following materials are available for members to download on the IPU Flu Vaccination Hub.
HSE Communications
The HSE commenced their media activity to promote the Autumn Winter Vaccination Programme on the 30 September. The messaging encourages those eligible for seasonal influenza and COVID-19 booster dose vaccination to top up their protection for the winter months and protect themselves from serious illness and hospitalisation. They direct members of the public to participating pharmacies and GPs. The media activity will take place during October, November, and January.
The HSE will also issue direct messaging (SMS, email) to encourage uptake of the seasonal influenza vaccine and COVID-19 booster dose during October and November to the following cohorts:
- healthcare workers;
- immunocompromised; and
- aged 60 years and older.
Promotion of the children’s flu vaccine will commence on October 7 and continue until the end of November.

The IPU in collaboration with the National Immunisation Office (NIO) hosted a webinar on the Autumn Winter Vaccination Programme 2024/2025. A recording of the webinar will be available to view on the IPU Vaccination Hub in due course.
