COVID-19 Spring Booster Campaign
NIAC has recommended a COVID-19 Spring booster for the following cohorts:
- those aged 80 years and older;
- those living in long-term care facilities for older adults; and
- those aged 5 years and older with immunocompromise associated with a suboptimal response to vaccination.
NIAC also recommends that the spring booster should be made available for those aged 70 to 79 years who, following discussion with a healthcare provider, request vaccination.
The HSE is currently working to operationalise these recommendations, and further information on dates for the spring campaign will be communicated as soon as it is available.
In the event of a clinical query in the intervening period, pharmacists can contact immunisation@hse.ie for guidance. You can also contact the IPU Professional Services team should you have any queries/require support in relation to vaccination services.
HSE MMR Catch-up Programme
The HSE has confirmed it is implementing an extended MMR catch-up programme due to the ongoing high risk in Ireland in relation to measles. While community pharmacies are not involved in administering MMR vaccines, they are asked to promote the campaign and, where the opportunity arises, encourage those eligible who are unvaccinated or under-vaccinated to come forward for vaccination. The HSE communication can be read in full here.
