Ukrainian Citizens

The interim measures due to the war in Ukraine remain in place. Ukrainian citizens who arrive in Ireland are entitled to be processed for medical cards in their own right as individuals. Each CHO has been issued with a generic medical card so that pharmacy claims can be seamlessly reimbursed for essential medicines and costed back accurately, whilst an individual is being processed for their individual medical card. These numbers are set out in this Circular.

A map of CHO areas can be found on the IPU Website.

Only GMS reimbursable items are covered by these temporary cards. OTC items will have to be charged as normal. If you have any queries about reimbursement, please contact the Pharmacy Function Unit at 01 864 7100 (option seven) or email pharmacy.response@hse.ie.

The generic medical numbers are exempt from a government levy, however this may change once the people in question have been issued with their individual medical card numbers. Members should check individual numbers through the PCRS eligibility checker to confirm levy charge status.
