The latest seasonal Influenza Surveillance Report, released from the HPSC, indicates that confirmed influenza cases are on the rise in Ireland.

There were 223 laboratory confirmed influenza notifications in the last week, compared to 192 cases in the week previous. There are currently 68 hospital inpatients due to influenza. During the 2022/2023 season to date, four deaths in notified influenza cases were reported to HPSC.

Laboratory confirmed influenza cases and hospitalised influenza cases are highest in those aged 0-4 years. WHO is advising countries to remain vigilant for the likelihood of influenza circulating and to be prepared for co-circulation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza.

Patients should be encouraged to avail of their influenza vaccination at their local pharmacy to help to protect them, their families and those who are most vulnerable in our communities.
