Prescription Storage Pods

We have received several queries from members regarding the legality of providing a prescription pick-up system whereby prescriptions are stored in PIN code-controlled pods/lockers outside the retail pharmacy business for collection by a patient.

Regulation 17 of The Medicinal Products (Prescription and Control of Supply) Regulations 2003 S.I. No. 540 of 2003, states that “A person shall not supply a medicinal product from an automatic vending machine or by means of any other mechanically or electronically controlled device of a self-service nature”.
