There has been a considerable number of media items over the last week covering medicine shortages and the role of pharmacists in alleviating pressure on the healthcare system with several IPU representatives quoted in both national and local papers and interviewed on national and local radio. One of our key asks was the introduction of a Serious Shortage Protocol to address ongoing supply isues.
IPU President Dermot Twomey was interviewed on the RTE Six One News (31:07) and on the Newstalk Hard Shoulder programme (02:05:00) and on several local radio stations. He was also quoted in articles in the Irish Independent, the Irish Examiner and Evening Echo.
Vice-President Ann-Marie Horan also appeared on RTE Six One News (28:50) and Virgin Media News and was interviewed on regional radio as was Paul Kenny (WLR), Ultan Molloy (Mid-West Radio) and Barra Nevin (Mid-West Radio). Tomas Conefrey appeared on Virgin Media News with Oonagh O’ Hagan quoted in the Sunday Times.
IPU Honorary Treasurer Tom Murray appeared on TG4 and was quoted in the Irish Times and appeared on regional radio (Highland Radio).
PCC Chair Kathy Maher was quoted in the Irish Independent, Irish Daily Mail and was also interviewed for RTE Radio News and on Newstalk. Kathy also appeared on Ireland AM.
Over the past week, the IPU also appeared in the media several times, expressing disappointment with the rollout of the new Cariban Reimbursement Scheme. A Newstalk interview on this topic is available here. The item was also included on The Journal.ie.
