Starting from 1 September pharmacists will be able to extend six-month prescriptions up to a maximum of 12 months where appropriate for that patient. Derek Reilly, IPU Secretary General (Acting) was quoted on RTÉ saying that “the act of reviewing a medication and determining if it is clinically appropriate to extend must be funded appropriately.” This topic was also covered in the Irish Independent, Irish Daily Mirror, The Sun, and Irish Medical Times.
