As a member you will have access to a discussion forum for advice and support, attend online educational events and receive regular email updates on antimicrobial stewardship. To become a member of the network, go to the “Courses and Events” page on the IIOP website, click the “Forum” tab and then enrol in the PAMS-net.
Online education event
On 27 September, PAMS-net hosted its first online educational event, which was attended by 89 pharmacists. The recording of the event, alongside the PDF of the slides, has now been uploaded to the PAMS-net webpage.
European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD)
18 November is European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD). This is an annual event to remind everyone how valuable antibiotics are, how important it is that we only use them when we need them and to highlight that these amazing drugs are under threat from the growing problem of antibiotic resistance.
We would like to highlight the important role community pharmacists play in educating patients and members of the public on the rational use of antibiotics. The HSE, in partnership with general practitioners and pharmacists, has a website (www.undertheweather.ie) that provides practical advice and information on managing many common illnesses without having to use antibiotics for patients and members of the public.
