You may have recently read a news story in the Journal.ie that indicated that NRT products would shortly become available through the DPS scheme.
We met with the PCRS on Monday, 4 September to discuss this and other operational issues; they are still awaiting confirmation from the Department of Health on this update and have, as yet, no timeline for implementation.
The PCRS indicated that this reimbursement would be for NRT products that already have a GMS reimbursement code, and they hope to provide further clarity by the end of this week. This announcement is very welcome for all those people seeking to quit smoking and is aligned with the Stop Smoking National Clinical Guideline, which made the following recommendation “Seek to remove access issues relating to NRT and other pharmacological supports”.
