A number of localised HSE initiatives have commenced in some areas to assist people that want to quit smoking. Patients accessing the service who require Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) are being directed to community pharmacy to avail of free NRT products. Please note this initiative has not been agreed with the IPU or the PCRS. There is no proper arrangement in place for pharmacists to be reimbursed correctly. We advise that if you are asked to participate in any new NRT scheme, that you direct the person to talk to the PCRS or to ourselves in the IPU.
We are seeking clarification in relation to the QUIT programme and an update will follow.
