HIQA has launched a public consultation on its draft health technology assessment (HTA) of shingles (herpes zoster) vaccination for adults.
This assessment was undertaken at the request of the Department of Health following a recommendation from the National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC). The final assessment will provide advice to the Minister for Health to inform a decision on whether to include shingles vaccination in the adult immunisation schedule in Ireland. Shingles vaccination for adults aged 50 years and older and those aged 18 years and older who are at increased risk of shingles was assessed.
An IPU Professional Services Pharmacist was a member of the Expert Advisory Group for the development of this HTA. The draft HTA report can be accessed at www.hiqa.ie
The IPU intends to provide feedback on this draft HTA to HIQA and individual members may also do so. Feedback can be submitted online here.
The consultation will remain open until 5pm on Tuesday, 30 April 2024. Following the public consultation, the report will be updated as necessary, and a finalised report will be submitted as advice to the Minister for Health and published on the HIQA website.
