Until now, access to Healthmail has been secured by a username and password. However, due to recent security incidents, the HSE is enhancing the security of the national Healthmail service by implementing multi-factor authentication (MFA), specifically two-factor authentication (2FA). It plans to roll it out to all pharmacies over the next couple of months.
While 2FA is straightforward for personal use, such as in banking or shopping—typically involving a code sent via SMS or an app—its implementation in a community pharmacy setting requires a different approach. To avoid complications, it is advisable to use a mobile device that remains within the pharmacy and to follow the steps outlined here.
