COVID-19 Immunisation Programme

Extended second COVID-19 vaccine booster doseThe National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC) has advised extending the administration of the second COVID-19 vaccine booster dose to these cohorts:
  • Individuals aged 5 to 11 years old that are immunocompromised;
  • Individuals aged 50-64 years old;
  • Individuals aged 12-49 years old who have an underlying condition or are residents of long-term care facilities;
  • Pregnant women at 16 weeks or later who have not already received a booster vaccine in their current pregnancy; and
  • Healthcare workers.

NIAC has also advised offering a third COVID-19 vaccine booster dose to those aged 65 years and older and those aged 12-64 years who are immunocompromised.

These are NIAC’s recommendations and the HSE is now working on making them operational. This means that NIAC’s advice has not yet been implemented.
