Contraception Portal – Update

Free Contraception Scheme

From the start of the Free Contraception Scheme, the IPU has consistently voiced concerns about the administrative challenges associated with the portal. Considering that integration into the Patient Medication Record (PMR) systems is regarded as a more efficient approach, the IPU is pleased to announce that the PCRS has successfully completed the necessary IT system enhancements and is now able to accept claims through the standard monthly electronic claiming process. The pharmacy vendor systems must now adapt their systems to allow for monthly claims.

Currently, the PCRS is engaging with all vendors to establish a roadmap. The objective is to phase out the portal once all contractors are enabled to process claims within the PMR system.

From 1 September 2023, the Free Contraception Scheme is extended to 30 year olds, meaning that women will be eligible for free contraception under the scheme from their 17th birthday until the day before their 31st birthday. The PCRS delegation affirmed their receipt of claims for the extended cohort.
