Earlier this year a delegation from the IPU addressed the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health about the potential of community pharmacy and the significant contribution the sector can make to the development and future of healthcare. A key element of our presentation on the day regarded the requirement for the appointment of a Chief Pharmaceutical Officer (CPO) who can assist in the development and delivery of a strategic vision for the future of pharmaceutical care within the Department of Health.
Following on from the meeting we have submitted a comprehensive proposal to the Committee about the role of a Chief Pharmaceutical Officer (CPO) and how the role would benefit not only pharmacy as a profession but the overall healthcare system. A copy of our proposal is available here.
