Irish Pharmacy Union AGM to take place this Saturday 14 May

Irish Pharmacy Union AGM to take place this Saturday 14 May

The Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU) will host its Annual General Meeting this Saturday in Dublin.

Taking place in person for the first time in three years, the meeting will see IPU members debate and agree a policy platform for the future of Ireland’s community pharmacy sector in the years ahead.

IPU President Dermot Twomey will chair the meeting.

Among the motions to be debated at the AGM are calls for:

  • The Department of Health to recruit a Chief Pharmaceutical Officer;
  • The Minister for Further and Higher Education to immediately expand the number of student places available in the schools of pharmacy;
  • The Minister for Health to expand vaccination services available in community pharmacies, including eg to include pneumococcal vaccines, travel vaccines, Hepatitis B and HPV vaccines;
  • Pharmacists to be allowed to provide safe and effective oral contraception without a prescription;
  • An immediate fee increase for community pharmacists against a backdrop of an extremely difficult labour market and rising inflation.

IPU spokespeople including Dermot Twomey are available for interview in relation to the aforementioned issues.
